1. Information We Collect

A. Information You Provide Directly

• Account Data: First name, age range, email address, gender, native language, and the language you are learning.
• Social Sign-In: If you sign in via Google or Apple, we receive your name and email address (subject to your privacy settings with those providers).

B. Audio and Learning Content

• Voice & Audio: Your voice audio is transmitted to OpenAI for transcription. The transcribed text, along with your profile information, is then used to generate real-time conversational responses.
• Transcripts: Your speech is transcribed into text to provide feedback on grammar and vocabulary.
• Screen Sensing: When you share your screen with Kai, screenshots are transmitted to OpenAI to provide real-time, contextual learning insights based on what's on your screen.

Note: We do not record or store video of your screen sessions. Screen images are processed in real-time and are not permanently stored by our AI providers.

C. Automated Technical Data

• Device Info: OS version, device model, and unique device identifiers.
• Usage Logs: Data on how you interact with Kai (session duration, features used) via PostHog.
• Session Recordings: Anonymized visual recordings of app sessions to improve the user experience. Text inputs and images are automatically masked to protect sensitive information.

2. How We Use Your Data

We process your data to turn your daily interactions into learning opportunities. Specifically, we use your information to:

• Provide Personal Insights: Transform your raw transcripts into actionable feedback, highlighting grammar improvements, expanding your vocabulary, and assessing your overall fluency level.
• AI Model Training: Improve the accuracy of Kai's learning features using de-identified data processed internally by Kai. Your personal data is never shared with third-party AI providers for their own model training purposes.
• Core Functionality: Enable account synchronization and save your learning progress across sessions.

3. Third-Party Service Providers

We rely on third-party service providers to operate and improve Kai. These providers may receive and process your data on our behalf, including:

• AI Processing: Your conversation text, user profile information (such as first name, age, and language level), and screen images (when screen sharing is active) are sent to OpenAI for generating personalized responses.
• Voice: Kai's spoken responses are generated by ElevenLabs.
• Cloud Hosting & Storage: Your account and session data are stored on AWS servers in the United States.
• Authentication: Firebase handles user sign-in and identity verification.
• Analytics: PostHog collects anonymized usage data to help us improve the app experience.

These providers process your data in real time and do not retain, store, or use your data for their own model training. They are contractually required to provide the same or equal level of protection for your data as described in this Privacy Policy and may only process it to provide their services to Kai.

4. Data Retention & Deletion

• Retention: We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data is typically removed from our active databases within 30 to 60 days.
• AI Training Data: De-identified learning data may be retained for up to 2 years to ensure the continued improvement of our language models.
• User Control: You can delete your account and all associated data at any time through the Profile Settings in the app.

5. Your Rights & Choices

• Permissions: You can revoke Kai's access to your Microphone or Screen Recording/Sensing permissions at any time through your iOS System Settings.
• Global Rights: Depending on your location (e.g., EU, UK, California), you may have the right to access, correct, or port your data. We honor these requests globally.
• Legal Disclosures: We may disclose your data if required by law (e.g., a subpoena) or in the event of a business merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, provided the receiving party agrees to honor this Privacy Policy.

6. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures via AWS and Firebase to protect your data. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
